For the 24th continuing season, Georgia has a former player in the Super Bowl

For an active record and the 24th season in a row, a former Georgia player will be in the Super Bowl. This year, the streak is extended by eight former Bulldogs — two on the Chiefs and six on the Eagles.

Everything started in 2002, when former Bulldogs and then-Patriots Richard Seymour, Patrick Pass and Jermaine Wiggins beat the Rams, launching New England’s dynasty. It became a streak the next year, when Oakland’s Matt Stinchcomb and Tampa Bay’s Tim Wansley and Jermaine Phillips faced off in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Since then, at least one former Georgia player has participated in each Super Bowl, with 20 of the 24 games featuring more than one Bulldog. The last time just one former Bulldog played in the Super Bowl was the Chiefs-49ers matchup in 2020.

During the streak, former Georgia players have accounted for one Super Bowl MVP (Hines Ward), one leading passer (Matthew Stafford), two leading rushers (Sony Michel, Knowshon Moreno) and one leading receiver (Ward).

While this kind of streak is hard to maintain, Georgia is in good position to do so. At the start of this NFL season, there were 58 former Bulldogs in the league, representing 23 of the 32 teams.

Additionally, 12 of the 14 teams in the NFL playoffs this season had at least one former Georgia player. The only two who did not, Denver and Minnesota, would have had to face each other in the Super Bowl for the streak to end.

Though there is certainly some luck involved, this streak highlights Georgia’s consistent and elite talent production this century that has translated to success at both the collegiate and professional levels.

Yep! For the 24th straight season, the University of Georgia will have at least one former player in the Super Bowl. This year, several former Bulldogs are on the rosters of the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs for Super Bowl LVIII.

Georgia Players in Super Bowl LVIII:

  • San Francisco 49ers:
    • Charlie Woerner (TE)
    • Chris Conley (WR)
    • Jake Camarda (P)
  • Kansas City Chiefs:
    • Mecole Hardman (WR)
    • Malik Herring (DL)

Georgia has had an incredible pipeline of talent to the NFL, and this streak showcases their ability to produce top-tier professional players.
