Tolu Arokodare delivered a man-of-the-match performance to lead KRC Genk to a commanding 2-0 victory over Anderlecht in the Belgian Jupiler League on Sunday afternoon
The forward opened the scoring in the 29th minute, expertly heading home a Zakaria El Ouahdi cross to give Genk the lead.
It marked Arokodare’s 11th goal in 19 league appearances for the Smurfs this season, underlining his remarkable form.
Midway through the second half, Arokodare turned provider, showcasing his playmaking ability.
His perfectly timed assist set up Konstantinos Karetsas, who finished off a swift counterattack to double Genk’s advantage and seal the win.
The goal was particularly significant for Arokodare, as it elevated him into the top 10 of Nigeria’s all-time highest scorers in the Belgian Pro League.
Prior to the match, he was tied in 11th place with legendary Super Eagles defender Stephen Keshi, who scored 24 goals during his time in Belgium.
Arokodare’s tally now stands at 25 league goals, achieved in just two seasons since joining Genk from French side Amiens SC.
His latest achievement sees him climb a prestigious list that features some of Nigeria’s greatest football exports, including Joseph Akpala (90 goals), Paul Onuachu (79), Tosin Dosunmu (68), Imoh Ezekiel (42), and Daniel Amokachi (35).
