Former Tennessee Vols tight end earns big promotion with the Tennessee Titans

A former Tennessee Vols tight end received a big promotion with the Tennessee Titans this week.

The Titans announced on Monday that Luke Stocker, a former Vols tight end, has been promoted from assistant tight ends coach to tight ends coach.

Stocker started his NFL coaching career in 2023 as an offensive assistant with the Titans. He was named the assistant tight ends coach ahead of the 2024 season.

The former Vol is replacing Justin Outten, who wasn’t retained by the Titans following the 2024 season.

Stocker played at Tennessee from 2006 to 2010 (which means he’s part of a small group of players that played for Phillip Fulmer, Lane Kiffin, and Derek Dooley).

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Stocker in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Stocker spent five and a half seasons in Tampa before he was signed by the Titans in the middle of the 2017 season. The former Tennessee tight end also spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and the Minnesota Vikings before calling it a career after the 2021 season.

In July 2023, the Tennessee Titans announced the addition of former tight end Luke Stocker to their coaching staff as a quality control coach, focusing on working with the team’s tight ends.

Stocker, who played college football at the University of Tennessee from 2007 to 2010, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He spent two seasons with the Titans during his 11-year NFL career, appearing in 19 games with 13 starts, and recording 16 receptions for 177 yards and two touchdowns.

As a quality control coach, Stocker will assist in game planning, film analysis, and player development, contributing to the overall success of the Titans’ offense. His experience as a former NFL tight end provides valuable insights for the team’s current players.

Stocker will work under tight ends coach Tony Dews, who transitioned to this role after previously coaching the Titans’ running backs. Dews’ move aims to enhance his involvement in game planning and accelerate his coaching career.

The Titans’ coaching staff has undergone significant changes, with promotions, demotions, and new hires. Stocker’s addition reflects the organization’s commitment to leveraging former players’ expertise to strengthen the team’s performance.

Stocker’s journey from NFL player to coach highlights his dedication to football and his desire to impact the game beyond his playing career. His familiarity with the Titans’ culture and operations positions him to contribute effectively to the team’s success in his new role.
