Omar Mabson from Auburn High signs with Auburn University

AUBURN (WRBL) – Auburn High School has produced yet another product that will suit up to play for the Auburn University Tigers. Omar Mabson, who averaged 138 yards per game this past season, joins a host of former teammates by signing to Hugh Freeze’s squad.

Mabson was a fundamental aspect of the offense of Auburn High’s terrific 2024-2025 team, which finished the regular season 10-1. Mabson led the team in yards per game and total touchdowns. He also carried for over 1500 yards, contributing in every game throughout the 2024 season.

It’d be easy to assume that Mabson was a senior this past season, but he was actually a junior. He will be foregoing his senior season to join Auburn early. Auburn High head coach Keith Etheredge spoke about this unique choice in the signing ceremony, stating “Usually…I would say, you know, that’s probably not a good idea…You probably need another year to develop and get better. You know, he has everything that it takes to be to be at a high level, you know, college football player, he’s going to be remembered as one of the best ever coming off in high school, broke the rushing record, broke the touchdown record, you know, did all that stuff in his junior season.”

Mabson will join Auburn University’s Football team this fall, turning 18 in August. WRBL will continue to follow his career as he takes on the collegiate level.
