In favor of the mistreated $192 million 76ers player, the Lakers may sever their relationship with Austin Reaves.
If the Los Angeles Lakers are finished completing in-season trades after acquiring Luka Doncic on Sunday, there’s a valuable move the organization should consider making during free agency.
Assuming the franchise eventually wants to shore up their frontcourt, they could target a mistreated Philadelphia 76ers superstar.
“I went from one of the more realistic ones in this video to just an insane idea, because I wanted to include Joel Embiid, but where am I going to have Embiid go to,” YouTube user ‘SROS’ said Monday.
“A team that just made a massive deal (Lakers) don’t have a center anymore, so we’re going to send Joel Embiid to the L.A. Lakers to create a Big Three (Embiid, Doncic and James).”
SROS’ trade idea would send Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Jarred Vanderbilt, and a 2031 first-round pick to the 76ers for Embiid and Guerschon Yabusele.
While Embiid is a dynamic stretch with a more advanced handle than most frontcourt assets, Philadelphia fans have not treated him appropriately.
Many have tossed around the idea of the 76ers cutting ties with Embiid due to his injury history and refusal to avoid load management.
However, the seven-time All-Star and 2023 MVP has helped Philadelphia remain relevant over the years and deserves more love from individuals who follow the franchise closely.
From the Lakers’ standpoint, JJ Redick and the company could benefit from landing a versatile center in Embiid who could replicate Anthony Davis’ success in Los Angeles.
The only problem is the Lake Show would be forced to fork over Reaves, a breakout star who continues to build meaningful chemistry with 6-foot-9 standout forward LeBron James.
However, building a lethal trio consisting of Embiid, Doncic, and James in the offseason may be too appealing of an opportunity for the organization to pass up.
