The proposal for the Nashville WNBA expansion team features a logo and colors that are connected to the Lady Vols and Predators.
The logo for the Tennessee Summitt WNBA team Bill and Crissy Haslam have submitted a bid for has been released.
The colors may look a little familiar. The primary color selections are Predators gold and a light blue similar to Summitt blue, which is worn by the Lady Vols.
The color selection was suggested by the Haslams. Using Summitt blue specifically hadn’t been in discussions, the shade of blue came from watching the Lady Vols.
The team, which will play at Bridgestone Arena if the bid is accepted, is named in honor of legendary Tennessee Lady Vols basketball coach Pat Summitt.
The logo features “Summitt” in white script lettering outlined in blue print stretched across the state of Tennessee in gold outlined in blue and with “Tennessee Women’s Basketball” included in a circle outside of the state on a blue background.
Blue and gold were mentioned as possibilities for the team’s colors at a news conference Wednesday.
If awarded, the team would begin play in the 2028 WNBA season.
Along with the Haslams former Lady Vol and WNBA star Candace Parker would be part of the ownership group. Parker played for Summitt.
Along with Bridgestone Arena, the Summitt would potentially play home games in Knoxville, Memphis and Clarksville.
Country music stars Tim McGraw and his wife Faith Hill, and former Tennessee Vols quarterback Peyton Manning are part of the ownership group.
The proposed Nashville WNBA expansion team, named the Tennessee Summitt in honor of legendary University of Tennessee Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt, plans to adopt a color scheme that reflects both the Lady Vols and Nashville’s professional sports teams. The team’s colors are expected to feature a blue-and-yellow theme, with the shade of blue resembling the Lady Vols’ “Summitt Blue,” rather than the darker blue used by the Nashville Predators or Nashville Soccer Club.
This choice of colors not only pays tribute to Pat Summitt’s legacy but also aligns with the branding of Nashville’s existing sports franchises, fostering a sense of unity and community support. The team is slated to play its home games at Bridgestone Arena, which is also the home of the NHL’s Nashville Predators.
The ownership group leading this bid includes former Tennessee Governor and current Nashville Predators Chairman Bill Haslam, his wife Crissy, former Lady Vols star Candace Parker, country music artists Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning.
By integrating elements associated with both the Lady Vols and the Nashville Predators, the Tennessee Summitt aims to honor the state’s rich basketball heritage while establishing a strong connection with the local sports community.
