Coaching Changes
In late January 2025, the Cowboys appointed Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach. Schottenheimer, who previously served as the team’s offensive coordinator, takes over from Mike McCarthy, whose contract expired and was not renewed. Schottenheimer’s promotion marks his first head coaching role in the NFL.
Following Schottenheimer’s appointment, Matt Eberflus was hired as the defensive coordinator. Eberflus, formerly the head coach of the Chicago Bears, returns to the Cowboys, where he previously served as linebackers coach and pass game coordinator from 2011 to 2017. Mike McCarthy’s Departure
Mike McCarthy’s tenure with the Cowboys concluded after the 2024 season. Despite expressing a strong desire to continue as head coach, McCarthy and the organization mutually agreed to part ways. His contract expired, and after thorough discussions, both parties decided it was best to move in different directions.
