The name now gaining momentum to be the Cowboys’ head coach

Jerry Jones’ search for Mike McCarthy‘s successor as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys continues, and a new name has emerged as a firm option, which could respond to a recent learning to first look at the talent he has at home, before looking outside.

And Jones let go of two coaches who are now in the spotlight with their teams in the NFC Conference Championship Game, first for their ability, but secondly, their success received greater media attention because they were part of the Cowboys staff. They are Dan Quinn, who was the defensive coordinator and is now the head coach of the Washington Commanders, and Kellen Moore, the current offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles.

“We might hear an offer for Brian Schottenheimer soon,” Shariff posted on his X account.

Schottenheimer has two seasons as offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, in 2022 he had already played the role of coaching analyst and, like the option of Kellen Moore, an eventual appointment to the position would respond to his prior understanding with quarterback Dak Prescott.

Candidates for Cowboys’ new head coach

The list of options for the Cowboys head coach in recent days has been headed by Deion Sanders and Robert Saleh, but before Brian Schottenheimer, other names have also been mentioned, such as former Dallas players Jason Witten and Kellen Moore, as well as Pete Carroll, Mike Tomlin and Aaron Glenn.

Among the options, the Cowboys have already held a virtual interview with Kellen Moore, and former Dallas player Deion Sanders, who finished his second season as head coach of the NCAA’s Colorado Buffaloes, is also on the list, and according to a report by Ed Werder, he would accept the job if offered.

Another former Cowboys player on the list is Jason Witten, who was the best tight end in franchise history and is the club’s leader in games, starts, consecutive starts, receptions and receiving yards. He is currently head coach at a private school in the Dallas area and his team just won a state championship.
