Kalen DeBoer’s first season grade at Alabama is dreadful.
As Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer heads into Year 2, a grade for his first season with the Crimson Tide has been revealed by ESPN.
DeBoer, 50, faced a unique challenge when taking over the championship caliber program after a legendary career by Nick Saban. After 17 seasons and six national championships at the helm, Saban’s retirement led to the hiring of DeBoer out of Washington.
Although the Milbank, South Dakota, native had never coached in the South before, DeBoer had a proven track record of winning.
DeBoer led the Sioux Falls Cougars to three Division II championships in four seasons before rising up the coaching ranks as an offensive assistant. He took his first Division I head coaching role with Fresno State in 2020, posting an 18-12 record in two seasons before arriving in Washington in 2022.
The Huskies went 25-3 in two seasons under DeBoer, who earned two Pac-12 Coach of the Year nods. Washington won the conference in 2023 and made College Football Playoff and the national championship game.
