Bears predicted to sign Chiefs superstar in free agency blockbuster

The Chicago Bears have hired Ben Johnson to help turn Caleb Williams into a superstar and take the Bears to the playoffs. They could make a big splash in free agency by signing a Kansas City Chiefs free agent.

Trey Smith is a free agent for the first time in his career. He has been a key part of the Chiefs dynasty and could look to cash in during free agency. While predicting landing spots for the top free agents, USA Today’s Nick Brinkerhoff predicted that Smith would sign with the Bears.

“The Chiefs will almost certainly make Smith a priority this offseason, but it could become a numbers game by the time free agency begins,” wrote Brinkerhoff. “Kansas City enters with just a projected $11.5 million in cap space, per OverTheCap, and has no shortage of work to do after the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, the Bears enter with around $62.96 million to spend before making any additional moves. It’s no secret that Caleb Williams struggled behind an offensive line that sometimes looked like the turnstiles at the amusement park. Some of the sacks are on him, but new head coach Ben Johnson will be eager to fix that major problem in year one.”

Spotrac projects Smith to earn a four-year, $78 million deal in free agency. Smith has missed just one start in four seasons and could be the new face of the Bears offensive line. Williams was the most sacked quarterback in the NFL last year and the offensive line will be a huge priority for the Bears.

Smith was a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career last season. He will be a highly coveted name in free agency.
